Transmissible Animal Diseases (Zoonoses)
Transmissible animal diseases (also called zoonoses) can be spread from animals to humans. These diseases may be fatal if they are not diagnosed in time. Dogs, cats, rodents, birds, mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks are among the most common infected animals because they are carriers of infectious bacteria and microbes. The diseases they transmit may be deadly if they are not properly taken care of by an immediate visit to the doctor.

What to Tell Children (excerpt)
• Avoid playing near garbage dumps.
• Cover your skin (long sleeves and garments).
• Do not touch an animal’s excrement.
• Wash your hands with soap on a regular basis.
Any animal sting or bite, even if seemingly irrelevant, needs to be taken care of by a doctor, or severe clinical complications may occur.
