Genital herpes, chlamydia, condyloma, syphilis, gonorrhea, hepatitis B, and AIDS are all sexually transmitted diseases, infections caused by microbes, bacteria, viruses, or fungi. They all have the following in common: they may be contracted during unprotected sexual intercourse. The best known among them is AIDS which causes many deaths every year.

• Hepatitis B and AIDS are also transmitted through blood; therefore, special attention needs to be paid with piercing procedures and tattoos. Sterilized equipment should always be used; otherwise, accidental blood exposure may cause infection. Additionally, do not pick up or touch abandoned needles.
