Running Away – Truancy

Running away is characterized by a short or long-term escape from home, and often occurs in the preteen and teenage years. School truancy may be one of the first indications that a child might be considering running away and should be closely observed.

Did you Know?
Runaway/Thrownaway reported each year in America: 357 600 (nearly one-half of missing children).

What to Tell Children (excerpt)
Immediately alert a friend or a relative about one’s situation or that of a runaway classmate.
Entrust any sensitive situation to a school counselor, school nurse, or relative.
Never tell a stranger or someone of the Internet that you are planning to run away. This could put you at serious risk (robbery, aggression, rape, or kidnapping).
